The first game of the 2017-18 NHL season isn’t set to start until September 29, but that doesn’t mean the Capitals, Penguins, Stars, Islanders, Islanders/Wild, Lightning, and Stars aren’t already playing their best hockey of the year.
The Caps will be playing their first game since Jan. 2 in Nashville, while the Penguins will be getting their first chance to play against their old rivals, the Stars, after playing on the same stage for a week at a time.
Here are the best moments from the Caps-Penguins game on Friday:Kurtis Foster’s goal: The Caps scored a goal off a breakaway and Foster was the beneficiary.
That goal came in the first minute of the second period when Foster beat Predators goalie Adam Clendening to the puck and beat the goalie to the crease.
The Caps will play a back-to-back on Saturday and Sunday and will play the Islanders, Hurricanes, Kings, and Flyers on Monday.
The Penguins will have a home game against the Blackhawks on Saturday.
The Hawks are coming off their home-and-home against the Capitals on Saturday night.

The only game that hasn’t been decided yet is the Penguins-Stars game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
