In the years to come, a company called Zachry Construction is looking to replace the current grid with a new system that is much cleaner and much more reliable.
In an effort to reduce CO2 emissions and keep power costs down, Zachry will construct a solar power plant with a combined capacity of 2,500 megawatts.
It will be built in the United States and will generate power from wind, solar, geothermal, and hydro.
The system will cost around $1 billion, but Zachry is aiming to get the project off the ground as soon as possible.
This is due to a lack of commercial renewable energy options, according to Zachry CEO David J. Pritchard.
“The economics of building a power plant are very compelling.
In order to meet the 2030 goal of reducing CO2 by 40 percent by 2030, the United Kingdom will need to build more than 20 megawatts of solar power plants per year, and that’s simply not economically feasible,” said Pritbury.
The company will also build a pilot plant to test out solar power.
“We will be looking at different types of solar systems and how we can integrate different types and types of technology,” Pritche said.
Zachry expects to have a total of 500 megawatts on-site when it’s completed, but says it has already received financing to build a second facility.
Zachries solar power station will have three phases: first, a turbine system that will generate solar energy, then a battery system that can store it and release it as needed, and finally a power supply.
The first phase of the power plant will be installed by 2021 and the second by 2022.
The project is a joint venture between the United Arab Emirates and the United National Infrastructure Fund (UNIFIL).
Zachry plans to install solar panels on the roof of the plant and use the wind energy generated to create electricity.
“Our system will have a capacity of 1,600 megawatts,” Pivcher said.
The plant is expected to be operational by 2020, though it will need extensive maintenance and upgrades to meet its goals.
It is expected that the plant will produce about 100 gigawatts of electricity.
Zachrys current solar power facility will have two phases: a turbine, which will generate electricity, and a battery that will store the energy.
The turbine system will generate about 1,000 megawatts, but the battery system will need at least 100 gigawatt hours of storage to be safe.
Zach’s solar power system will be similar to those found at many large power plants in Europe.
Zach said it is likely that the company will be able to obtain more financing for this project, as well as to find a developer that can build it in the U.S. Zach has been working with other developers and has met with many potential investors.
Zach is also hoping to secure funding for a second solar power project, this time in China.
“With its location in Asia, China could be the next major solar power market for the United Nations,” Pregchard said.
“Solar power in China is still very nascent, so we are excited about the opportunity to partner with Zachry to build the next generation of U.N. renewable energy technology.”
